Shoukry, Irish counterpart discuss Palestinian issue

Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met on May 26 with Mehul Martin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Republic of Ireland, on the sidelines of the two ministers’ participation in the European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting held in Brussels, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The official spokesman for the Foreign Ministry explained that shoukry expressed his appreciation to his Irish counterpart for his country’s positions in support of the rights of the Palestinian people and support for peace and stability in the Middle East region, appreciating in this regard the important step that Ireland took last week regarding the official recognition of the Palestinian state in a way that contributes to supporting the efforts aimed at finding the political horizon to implement the two-state solution in accordance with the decisions of international legitimacy.

For his part, the Irish Foreign Minister indicated that the European Union and its member states are continuing to discuss ways to get out of this crisis, considering his country’s recognition of the Palestinian state as a good step that can be built upon with a number of other European Union countries, appreciating the Egyptian efforts made regarding the crisis to achieve calm and bring in aid for residents of the strip.
