Shoukry, Iranian counterpart discuss war in Gaza

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, on May 4, on the sidelines of their participation in the fifteenth session of the Islamic Summit Conference held in Banjul.

The meeting focused on the items on the agenda of the Islamic Summit, where the two ministers agreed on the importance of strengthening solidarity and unity among Islamic countries at this time when the Islamic world is facing great challenges, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.

The official spokesman revealed that the foreign ministers discussed in some detail the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, as Shoukry was keen to inform his Iranian counterpart of the Egyptian efforts aimed at reaching a truce that would allow the exchange of hostages and detainees to reach a complete and permanent ceasefire. They also stressed their rejection of a military operations in the Palestinian Rafah city.

Shoukry and his Iranian counterpart addressed the course of bilateral relations between Egypt and Iran, in light of previous contacts and meetings between the two ministers and the directives of the leadership of the two countries during the last period, as the two sides agreed to continue consultations with the aim of addressing all outstanding topics and issues in an effort to normalize the relations.
