Shoukry Heads to Rwanda to Lay Cornerstone for Magdi Yacoub Heart Center

On Tuesday, the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, headed to Rwanda to participate in laying the cornerstone of Magdi Yacoub Heart Center in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, as well as to meet with a number of Rwandan officials.

Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is financing the purchase and supply of all equipment for the first phase of the project to establish the Magdi Yacoub-Rwanda Heart Center through its Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development.

He added that the celebration will be attended by high-ranking Rwandan officials, led by Mrs. Janet Kagame, First Lady of Rwanda, and Dr. Magdi Yacoub.

Professor Yacoub is the founder and director of research at the Harefield Heart Science Center and is currently the professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.

Founded by Yacoub, the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation in Aswan along the banks of the Nile River is fully dedicated to the "well-being of the people of Egypt and throughout the whole region," according to the official website.
