Shoukry Delivers Speech on AU PSC's Activity Report

Foreign Minister (FM) delivered the presidential speech on African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council's (PSC) activity report.

At the beginning of his speech, Shoukry said that the summit is being held this year, amid critical regional and international conditions that require cooperation to confront the existing security challenges, especially with their increasing degree of complexity, which requires more effective methods to deal with them.

Moreover, FM highlighted important priorities for joint African action to ensure the provision of peace and security for the countries of the continent, including concerted African efforts to contain the ongoing conflicts in the continent and find permanent solutions to them, stressing the need for these solutions to be consistent with the principles of justice, fairness.

Egypt's top diplomat underlined the urgent need to deal with the security challenges and threats in the continent from a comprehensive perspective, in a manner that addresses the root causes of these challenges and deals with their economic and social repercussions.

Furthermore, Egypt's statement tackled the situation in Sudan, in light of the progress it has achieved towards restoring stability and ending the transitional phase, in addition to the need to provide the necessary support to Libyan brothers in order to hold parliamentary and presidential elections under the umbrella of neutral executive authority, to restore Libya's sovereignty and stability.
