Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Antony Blinken, United States secretary of state, affirmed rejecting any Israeli ground military operation in the Palestinian Rafah, especially in light of the grave humanitarian consequences of such an action, and its dangerous repercussions on the security and stability of the region.
This came during the phone call that the Foreign Minister received, Friday, from Blinken, during which the developments of the Gaza Strip crisis and its regional repercussions were discussed.
Ahmed Abou Zaid, the official spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the two ministers discussed the efforts made to achieve a ceasefire and increase the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Shoukry stressed the need to continue to put pressure on Israel to comply with its responsibilities as the occupying power, especially by stopping targeting defenseless civilians, opening the land border crossings between Israel and the Gaza Strip to increase the flow of aid, and removing obstacles to the entry of aid, in addition to allowing displaced Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza.
He reiterated Egypt's complete rejection of attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians outside their lands, as this measure entails the goal of liquidating the Palestinian cause, in grave violation of the provisions of international law.
During the call, the two ministers touched on the increasing tensions in the region, and the importance of working to contain the ongoing escalation, its seriousness and its negative effects on the stability of the region and its people.
