Egyptian actress, Shery Adel and her ex-husband Islamic preacher Moez Masoud stirred controversy after attending together Thursday evening the opening ceremony of the third edition of El Gouna Film Festival (GFF).
It was their first public appearance after news outlets reported their porce last August.
Fans were quick to share their confusion on social media, who wondered if the duo got married again, or if they attended the festival together out of mutual respect and friendship.
Last August, Shery had announced that the two have gone their separate ways after a less than a year of marriage.
They got married several months after the Islamic preacher porced his former wife in 2018.
The couple’s marriage had sparked a great debate in the artistic and media circles, and among social media users.
Masoud had produced Adel's latest TV series “El-Seham El-Mariqa” (Rogue Arrows).
El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) runs from September 19 to 27 at El Gouna Resort-town، in Red Sea governorate.
The festival was established in 2017— under the slogan of “Cinema for Humanity” — to underscore the role cinema plays in promoting cultural interaction and to highlight the awareness of different cinematic voices through encouraging dialogue and by building bridges of creative intellect.
This year, 83 films will be screened, which includes 51 competing in the three official competitions, three official competitions (Feature Narrative Competition, Feature Documentary Competition, and Short Film Competition), which totals 224,000 USD.
The festival’s Feature Narrative Competition jury will include iconic Egyptian film director Khairy Beshara for president, award-winning director and producer Mai Masri, Nashen Moodley, Resul Pookutty, and Stas Tyrkin.
The Feature Documentary Competition jury will be headed by acclaimed Senegalese director, producer, screenwriter and actor Moussa Touré, and consists of award-winning director and producer Anne Aghion, Ludmila Cvikova, Talal Derki, and Nahed Nasrallah.
Meanwhile, the Short Film Competition jury is headed by prominent Egyptian director Marwan Hamed and includes Tunisian star Dorra Zarrouk, Colombian-Belgian film director and cinematographer Juanita Onzaga, Jukka-Pekka Laakso, and Iraqi director, producer, and screenwriter Mohamed Daradji.
