Egypt will host the 9th conference of the United Nations Convention against Corruption from December 13 to 17, 2021 in Sharm El-Sheikh. This was announced in the speech of Ambassador Mohamed Idris, Egypt’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) during his participation in the UN celebration of the International Anti-Corruption Day on Thursday.
Idris expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the efforts of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in combating corruption, despite the pressing circumstances imposed by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Also, he confirmed the importance of international cooperation and advancing multilateral action to confront corruption and its transnational repercussions.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that Cairo and the UN participated in celebrating this International Day by organising a virtual workshop on protecting sport from corruption. In addition, he reviewed Egypt’s efforts in combating corruption, which are based on ensuring the principles of law, sovereignty, and respecting human rights.
The event was attended by representatives from several countries, international financial institutions, and academic bodies.
