Chinese “Global Times” newspaper reported that the health system in Shanghai is on the brink of collapse.

A health official said that the number of Corona cases will continue to grow in the coming days, and then the numbers will decrease after strict health measures are imposed.

He added that the process of reducing the number of cases and conducting a Corona test for all the city residents will be a very difficult task for Shanghai.

Million of residents from south and east of the city have been subject to lockdown since last Monday. The lockdown is scheduled to be lifted on Friday when it will be imposed for 4 days in the oldest part of the city, west of Huangpu River. All residents are scheduled to undergo a PCR test twice.

Shanghai represents 20% of Corona cases in China, amounting to 1,800, while the city represents 80% of the asymptomatic cases, and have reached 6,600 cases last Wednesday.

China currently is experiencing the worst outbreak of the Coronavirus in two years due to the Omicron mutant.

Shanghai, with a population of 26 million, has recorded about 20 thousand Corona cases this month.
