Shanghai is bracing for Typhoon Bebinca, with authorities canceling hundreds of flights and implementing travel restrictions as the storm nears.
Both Hongqiao and Pudong airports halted flights after 8 p.m. local time on Sunday, impacting over 600 flights, according to official statements.
Typhoon Bebinca, located just a few hundred kilometers from the coast, is expected to make landfall early Monday morning, bringing severe weather conditions to the region.
The China Meteorological Administration has classified the typhoon as a "strong" storm, with wind speeds predicted to reach 151 kph (94 mph) by Sunday night.
Authorities have taken precautionary measures, evacuating 377,000 people from Shanghai. In the nearby city of Zhoushan, businesses and public transportation services have already been suspended ahead of the storm’s arrival.
Meteorologists forecast up to 10 inches (25.4 cm) of rainfall along the eastern coastline, with parts of the region expected to experience the brunt of Bebinca's impact.
Travel on certain bridges has been suspended, and highway restrictions have been put in place to ensure public safety.
