Cairo Governor Major General Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received on Tuesday Representative of the Italian Deposit and Loan Fund Luca Masi, and his accompanying delegation.
They discussed ways to develop Shak El-Thoban industrial zone and turn it into a global one.
The meeting was attended by a galaxy of senior officials including commercial counselor at the Italian embassy in Cairo Pietro Tombachini, Commercial Attache’ of the Italian embassy in Cairo Elina Marara, Head of the Marble and Granite Division, Federation of Egyptian Industries.
At the outset of the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar stressed the deep Egyptian-Italian relations at all levels and fields foremost of which; the manufacturing of marble, leather, and furniture.
He also pointed out to the governorate’s keenness to benefit from the Italian expertise in the developing of Shak El-Thoban zone through modernizing machines and equipment, providing the necessary technical training as well as establishing joint projects to develop the road network, drainage, and services.
Moreover, the Governor underlined the political leadership’s great interest in developing Shak El-Thoban along with a number of other industrial cities including Rubik's city for leather industry and new Damietta city for furniture industry using the expertise of world’s countries, especially Italy to provide job opportunities and increase the chances of Egyptian products' exporting.
On his part, the Italian representative affirmed his entity's keenness to cooperate with marble companies in Shak El-Thoban zone to increase their production capacity and support them with the latest equipment and machines.
Shak El-Thoban industrial zone
It is an industrial area that includes nearly 1,855 factories and workshops for manufacturing marble and granite.
It employs about 50 thousand workers and technicians.
