Several Killed in Car Ploughs into Filipino Gathering in Vancouver, Canada

A few minutes ago, several fatalities were confirmed after a car crashed into a crowd at a street festival celebrating Filipino heritage in Vancouver, according to authorities.

“A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival,” the Vancouver Police Department posted in a statement on X.

The police added that the driver of the vehicle is in custody.

The incident happened after 8 pm near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street where members of the Filipino community gathered to celebrate Lapu Lapu Day, announced the Vancouver mayor, Ken Sim.

He also offered condolences in a statement.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event,” Ken Sim wrote on X.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Canadian prime minister, Mark Carney, said: “I am devastated to hear about the horrific events at the Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver earlier this evening. We are all mourning with you.”
