Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that the United States is expected to launch a military strike against Iran within the next 48 hours, describing such a scenario as “inevitable” given the current level of escalation.
Speaking in an interview with Pink TV, Vučić stated that he anticipates “an attack on Iran and other major developments within the next forty-eight hours,” adding that he believes the confrontation can no longer be avoided. His remarks were reported by RT.
The Serbian president’s comments come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has previously warned that any U.S.-led war against Iran would take on a “broad regional character,” signaling the risk of wider instability.
On the diplomatic front, the European Union announced new sanctions on Thursday targeting 15 Iranian officials and six entities. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas confirmed that the bloc had decided to add Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to its list of terrorist organizations.
Iran responded sharply to the move. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the EU decision as a “strategic mistake,” while Iran’s armed forces held European policymakers fully responsible for the consequences of the designation.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said that a large American naval fleet is heading toward Iran, while also expressing hope that Tehran would agree to return to negotiations. Trump recalled U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025, warning that “the next attack would be far worse” if diplomacy fails.
In contrast, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated that diplomacy should take priority over war, stressing that conflict would benefit neither Iran, the United States, nor the wider region. He added that threats and force would not compel Iran to negotiate.
