Senegalese President Macky Sall announced that he will not run for a third presidential term in 2024, ending speculation that he is seeking to remain in power after spending two terms in the presidential palace, France 24 reported.
Sall said - in a speech delivered and broadcast on state television - that he would not run for a new term in 2024.
It is worth noting that Senegal, which is the most stable country in West Africa, has witnessed multiple clashes recently between supporters of the opposition Ousmane Sonko and the security forces.
These confrontations were linked to Sonko's trial and then his return from the south of the country to the capital, Dakar.
