Senegal has successfully launched its first satellite into space, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance natural resource management, disaster prevention, and agricultural development through advanced Earth observation.

The satellite, named GAINDESAT-1A, was launched aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA, following a three-month delay from the initially planned schedule.

Senegalese media reported the successful deployment, which represents five years of dedicated work and the first phase of Senegal's ambitious space program, SENSAT.

The GAINDESAT-1A satellite, which was manufactured in Senegal, is designed to gather and analyze Earth observation data, playing a crucial role in managing the country’s natural resources, preventing disasters, and supporting agricultural development.

This launch is a key step towards positioning Senegal's space sector as a driving force for social and economic growth.
