The US Senate passed a budget resolution on Friday, paving the road for Congress to pass President Joe Biden's $ 1.9 trillion stimulus bill.
The vote was split along parties, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the decisive vote for approval of 51 to 50. The resolution will allow the Democrats to pass the Biden incentive bill without the support of the Republicans.
With its approval, the Democrats could pass the package with a simple majority, preventing Republicans from spreading the tactics that would have required 60 votes to bypass.
The decision was passed as part of the marathon overnight by the vote of the amendment known as the vote in the rama, a lengthy and mostly symbolic series of amendment votes on myriad issues.
The resolution will now be sent to the Democratic-controlled House for approval.
