According to People, the 28-year-old American singer Selena Gomez found a new purpose this year as an advocate for mental health, racial equality, and body positivity.
Gomez who was recently celebrated as one of PEOPLE’S Magazine People of the year opened up about her depression, and anxiety. She explained how she at times felt hopeless and could not even get out of bed. She also committed to raising 100 million dollars in the next 10 years to provide mental health resources to underserved communities.
“I understand now how it feels to be on the other side, comparing myself or thinking I need to look more like this or more like that to fit in,” the singer said regarding body image issues.
She added: “It can take a toll on you, for sure. We’re not all a certain way, and we’re not meant to be. It’s fair to say that I am 1000 percent on the journey with the consumers. It’s not easy for everybody, and I want people to know they’re not alone.”
It noteworthy that Gomez opened up about her personal struggle growing up with racism especially since her father is Mexican.
She is also talked about the messages of the women who inspired her 2020 including Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama ahead of the U.S presidential elections.
