Interior design is a fusion of the art of designing and the skill of practical space planning, Architect Mohamed Hendawi tells “SEE” the true meaning of interior design Identity.

Interior design style is a reflection of the art and culture of a special era for a specific nation or part of our world.

It becomes fashionable in a period, however, as people always love to change everything that surrounds them, it might go unpopular, however, it never dies.

“There are more than 30 popular interior design styles around the World such as; Industrial, Art Deco, French, Islamic, Minimalist, Ultra Modern …etc,” said Architect Mohamed Hendawi.

What is the Egyptian interior style, or design identity?

Egypt is one of the greatest nations on Earth. About 1000 years ago, Egypt was very rich with its art and culture starting from the Egyptian Pharaohs to Islamic Architecture, and Coptic Architecture.

“We need to recall and work hard to rebrand and reshape those treasures, in order to create a new Egyptian interior design style, which reflects our Identity to the modern world. This interior design style it is possible to be inspired by any of these civilizations or to merge among them.” Hendawi added.

Why don't we see the Egyptian Interior design styles in our environments?

We do not see it in our built environment for many reasons such as people do not see any new ideas that attract them to buy it, designers most of the time attracted to Western designs and combine it in our culture, untrained labors, and developers lack awareness.

How can we start rebuilding our identity in environments?

It will not be an easy process, we need to bring experts from different parts of the world to awake the handicrafts and small industries and sending missions abroad to the distinguished countries such as China, Malaysia, and Singapore.

“We cannot reinvent the wheel by appointing a technical committee to manage this renaissance, in order to conquer the world with our products stemming from our civilization and our beautiful art.”
