CAIRO, Feb. 14 (SEE) - Alexander Graham Bell was a
Scottish-born scientist, inventor, engineer, and innovator who is credited with
inventing and patenting the first practical telephone.
He was born on March 3, 1847 and died on Aug. 2, 1922. He
also founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1885.
On Feb. 14, 1876, inventors Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha
Gray applied separately for patents related to the telephone. The U.S. Supreme
Court eventually ruled Bell the rightful inventor.
SEE sheds
some light on Bell's most well-known quotes as follows:
"When one door closes another door opens; but we so
often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see
the ones which open for us."
"Mr. Watson — Come here — I want to see you."
[First intelligible words spoken over the telephone]
"Before anything else, preparation is the key to
success."
