A brief scare at Cairo International Airport on Friday evening was quickly contained after a loud “popping” sound was heard in a parking area adjacent to the facility, according to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Interior.
Officials confirmed that the noise was caused by a gas leak from a refrigerant cylinder carried by an air-conditioning technician in his vehicle while on duty at the airport. The leak produced a sharp popping sound, which briefly alarmed bystanders but did not result in any injuries or damage.
Authorities stressed that the situation was brought under full control and that all necessary safety measures were promptly taken. “There were no casualties or losses, and the incident posed no threat to airport operations,” the ministry said.
The clarification came after passengers and staff reported hearing the noise, sparking momentary concern at one of the country’s busiest transport hubs.
