The Iranian semi-official Mehr news agency reported today, Sunday, that a military advisor to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) had died after an Israeli air attack near the Syrian capital.
Israel has been carrying out attacks for years against what it says are targets linked to Iran in Syria, where the influence of Tehran, which supports the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, is growing. Iran says its officers are playing an advisory role in Syria at the invitation of Damascus.
Dozens of Revolutionary Guard members, including senior officers, have been killed in Syria during the war.
The air strike on Friday, the sixth attack by Israel in Syria in March, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, also killed Milad Haidari, another military adviser and officer in the Revolutionary Guards
The Revolutionary Guards vowed to respond to the attack, which Israel launched on Friday.
