SCZone to Launch Digital Platform for Customs, Logistics Services

Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) participated in the fifth edition of the International Exhibition and Conference on Smart Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics for the Middle East and Africa 2023 Trans-MEA, under the slogan “Localization of the Transportation Industry in Egypt".

The Economic Zone is participating in a pavilion in Hall 2, through which it showcases its efforts in the sectors of maritime services, logistics, and transportation industries of all kinds.

El-Din stated that the economic zone aims to develop its ports and benefit from the integration between ports and industrial zones to reach various global markets. The zone is expected to launch a digital platform for customs and logistical services next year, in addition to improving the services provided at the ports and adding ship bunkering services with traditional and green fuel.

He pointed out the success of a practical experiment to supply the first ship in the world that runs on green fuel, the first of this type of ship supply operations in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.

The head of the Suez Canal Economy also pointed out the volume of projects contracted to be implemented or that received final approval in the Authority’s seaports, amounting to 7 projects during the fiscal year 2022/23, with a total investment of $1.34 billion, as the lengths of the berths allocated to these projects reached 4,455 meters of berths and trading yards. With a total area of 2.85 million square metres, he also stressed that the economic zone plays an effective role in localizing the automobile industry and the industries that feed it.

Walid Gamal El-Din explained that construction is underway at the Egyptian National Railway Industries Company (NERIC) factory, which aims to assemble train and metro vehicles locally. NERIC also signed a cooperation agreement with Hyundai Rotem to supply 320 metro cars for subway lines 2 and 3, and a contract is being made to produce them. 500 passenger railway cars.

The economic zone seeks to activate the memorandum of understanding that it signed last year with the sovereign fund, the East Port Said Development Company, and the Egyptian International Automotive Group, which aims to establish a joint automotive manufacturing complex in the East Port Said region (East Port Said Automotive Zone - EPAZ), as the economic zone is making efforts to attract the largest number It is possible for the leading brands of automobile manufacturers around the world to contribute to the localization of the automobile industry in light of the national strategy to localize that industry, which was launched from the East Port Said region. The EPAZ complex aims to manufacture 75,000 vehicles annually as a capacity for the first phase.
