The head of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) held talks with a Romanian business delegation to explore expanded cooperation in ports, logistics, and industrial investment, as Egypt continues to position the zone as a global trade and manufacturing hub.

Waleid Gamal El-Din met with a delegation from the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by Iuliu Stocklosa, at the authority’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including maritime ports, shipping services, logistics, chemicals, and metal industries. Officials from both sides attended the meeting, underscoring the strategic nature of the engagement.

During the meeting, Gamal El-Din presented an overview of the zone’s competitive advantages, highlighting its strategic geographic location linking global trade routes across continents. He emphasized that the economic zone benefits from multiple free trade agreements that provide access to markets of more than two billion consumers.

He also pointed to the region’s advanced infrastructure, international-standard facilities, skilled technical workforce, and competitively priced energy resources. According to him, these factors have helped attract over $16 billion in investments from around 30 different countries.

Romanian representatives expressed strong interest in expanding economic ties with Egypt, praising the country’s recent development achievements, particularly in infrastructure, transportation networks, and urban expansion projects.

Stocklosa noted Romania’s interest in exploring opportunities within Egypt’s economic zone, especially in chemicals, fertilizers, railway components, an area in which Romania has established expertise, as well as ports and maritime logistics.

The talks reflect growing momentum in Egypt’s strategy to deepen international partnerships and attract foreign investment into one of its most strategically important economic corridors.
