Police in Scotland have launched a counterterrorism investigation into a series of suspected anti-Muslim attacks in Edinburgh that left five men injured.
Authorities arrested a 36-year-old white Scottish man following multiple incidents involving violence, threats, robbery, and vandalism across the city on Friday evening. Three of the victims required hospital treatment, though none suffered life-threatening injuries.
According to police, specialist counterterrorism officers are leading the investigation, while reports suggest several victims were Muslim. Videos circulating online allegedly show the suspect carrying a large knife and making anti-Muslim remarks.
John Swinney condemned the attacks, stating that there is "no place for violence, racism, or intolerance" in Scotland.
Police described the incidents as deeply concerning and urged the public to treat the case as a suspected act of Islamophobic extremism while investigations continue.
