Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi reaffirmed his commitment to advancing India–China relations based on mutual trust and respect during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
According to India’s NDTV channel on Sunday, Modi noted that he had held fruitful discussions with President Xi last year on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, which provided a positive direction for bilateral relations.
He added that an atmosphere of peace and stability had been created following the resolution of border clashes.
For his part, President Xi stated that the world is undergoing transformation, emphasizing that China and India are among the most populous and historic nations, and both are integral parts of the Global South.
He stressed the importance of the two countries remaining good neighbors and friends.
The SCO Summit is being hosted in Tianjin, northern China, over two days, where leaders from more than 20 countries and heads of 10 international organizations are gathering on the banks of the Haihe River.
