German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called again on Sunday for a ceasefire in Gaza, ahead of the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks and the subsequent Israeli war on the Strip.
Scholz said - in a video message he posted on the "X" platform - Unfortunately, on this first anniversary... peace or even reconciliation in the Middle East seems further away than ever before.
He added that the German government continues to call - persistently - for a ceasefire, which must be achieved now.
Scholz continued, "We are in close contact with our international partners to prevent further escalation of the conflict."
