SCA Issues General Catalogue on Deir El-Medina Monuments

Scientific Publication Administration of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) has issued a new publication of the Egyptian Museum Catalogue General entitled “‏Catalogue General of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, nos. 35001-35066, Deir El-Medina Stelae and other inscribed Objects”.

It is the production of Spanish, Egyptian and French project which studied the monuments of Deir El-Medina area, in Luxor Governorate that is preserved in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

It had also presented the history of previous studies in the area from 1909 to 2015.

Dr Nagwa Metwally, Director General of the Scientific Publish Administration, stated that the catalogue contains 66 pieces of Deir el-Medina monuments discoveries which is located at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

“The catalogue displays each piece with a translation of the text engraved on it,” she added.

The catalog is pided into three sections: the first is for the paintings, the second is for offering tables, and the third and final section contains various artifacts, including door-sills, and carved stone pieces, dating back to different eras, most from the modern state.

In the introduction, the Catalogue staff paid a tribute to late Mr. Adel Mahmoud Abdel-Qader, head of the modern state department of the museum and expressed thankfulness for his distinguished effort and assistance to the staff working under Dr. Jose Galan, Head of the Spanish mission in Luxor.

“This Catalogue is a unique addition to the archaeological library and archaeology researchers.” Dr. Metwally added.
