Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, passed away on Tuesday after a lifetime dedicated to Islamic scholarship and religious service.
The Saudi Royal Court confirmed his death in an official statement, noting his long-standing role as the Kingdom’s top religious authority and head of the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta.
Funeral prayers will be performed later today at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, following the Asr prayer.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz has also directed that absentee prayers be offered for the late Grand Mufti at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, and in mosques across the Kingdom.
