The Saudi Cabinet approved a system that regulates donation of human organs in the kingdom after a session chaired by Saudi King and Prime Minister Salman bin Abdel Aziz.
The session was held today Wednesday via the Internet.
It is worth noteworthy that the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia passed a motion in September 2019 to regulate donating human organs.
The newly accepted bill regulates transferee, implant, and reserve human organs to save human life and to keep rights of those who donate and who receive organs.
The Saudi bill also permits licensing and define responsibilities of institutions working in this field to regulate donation and implant to prevent exploiting of the need of either the donor or the patient along with put a lid on trafficking of human of organs.
Council of Senior Scholars (Saudi Arabia) and the Council of Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) had issued a fatwa before 22 years that permits donation of organs of the dead people.
On the other hand, Saudi King Salman bin Abdel Aziz decreed to grant 118 donors of their organs Medallion of King Abdel Aziz of the 3rd order.
Saudi media reported that the king granted the medallions to those who donated main organs and to relatives of the dead people.
