Saudi Arabia and the United States have announced that representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces have agreed to a nationwide ceasefire in Sudan for a period of 24 hours, starting at 6 am tomorrow, Saturday, 10th of June, Khartoum time.

In a joint statement issued by Saudi Arabia and the United States, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), it was stated that under the agreement, both sides will commit to halting attacks, artillery shelling, air strikes, the use of drones, movement and repositioning of forces, and resupply. Moreover, neither party will seek to gain a military advantage during the ceasefire period.

The statement further clarified that the parties have agreed to allow the free movement of humanitarian aid and its access to all parts of the country. Adherence to this agreement plays a crucial role in delivering humanitarian aid to the affected population.

Saudi Arabia and the United States affirmed in the concluding remarks of the statement that they share the Sudanese people's frustration over the previous breaches of ceasefires. Hence, this ceasefire has been proposed to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, break the cycle of violence, and contribute to enhancing confidence-building measures between the parties, thereby allowing the resumption of Jeddah talks.

The statement also highlighted that if the parties do not commit to this ceasefire, mediators will be forced to postpone the Jeddah talks.
