Saudi Arabia reaffirmed on Wednesday its endeavor to promote peace and stability in Yemen, according to Sputnik News agency.
These remarks came during the Saudi cabinet weekly meeting, chaired by King Salman Bin Abdel Aziz via video-conference.
The meeting "reviewed a set of issues about the latest regional and international developments," Saudi Acting Media Minister Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi said in an official statement.
The statement stressed, "the Kingdom's keenness to achieve security and development for the brotherly Yemeni people."
"Saudi Arabia is moving forward to implementing the Riyadh Agreement to promote peace and stability, and reach a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the three references represented in the Gulf initiative," the statement read.
It is worth mentioning that, for about 6 years, Yemen has been witnessing violent battles between the Houthi organization, officially known as "Ansar Allah", and the Yemeni army of the legitimate government backed by an Arab military coalition, led by Saudi Arabia.
In a post on Twitter, the United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that "The conflict in Yemen has so far claimed 233,000 lives."
"This staggering number is unacceptable," it added, pointing out that Yemen has reached "a point of no return.
Moreover, it underlined the need for an immediate ceasefire.
