Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its rejection of any attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz or disrupt international maritime routes.
Saudi Vice Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim El Khereiji said freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle protected by international law and must be respected and preserved.
Speaking during a virtual meeting involving MED9 countries, Arab League member states, and Western Balkan partners, El Khereiji warned that disruptions to maritime routes are beginning to affect global food security through impacts on fertilizer shipments and essential food supplies.
He stressed the importance of protecting supply chains and ensuring the continued flow of regional and international trade, adding that Saudi Arabia will continue efforts to support market stability and secure supplies.
El Khereiji also called for stronger international coordination to protect maritime routes and improve access to essential supplies in support of regional and global stability.
