The Saudi General Authority for Food Security announced on Monday that the kingdom has purchased around 1.3 million tons of wheat in a tender.

The authority also stated that shipments of wheat are expected to arrive in the kingdom between February and May 2024.

The tender sought to acquire hard wheat with a protein content of 12.5%, and it closed on Friday.

Ahmed Al-Fares, the governor of the authority, stated in a press release that source options were presented in the tender, including the European Union, the Black Sea region, North America, South America, and Australia, giving sellers the freedom to choose their preferred source.

The authority specified that the shipments will be distributed to the kingdom's ports, with 9 vessels destined for Jeddah Islamic Port, 7 for Yanbu Commercial Port, 5 for King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, and one for Jazan Port.

In the previous tender announced in June, Saudi Arabia purchased 624,000 tons of wheat.

Traders believe that Saudi Arabia imports wheat from its agricultural investments abroad.

The name of the authority was changed from the General Authority for Grains to the General Authority for Food Security in January.
