Lionsgate announced Wednesday the release date for Samuel L. Jackson's new movie "The Protege" is set to hit the theaters on Aug. 20, 2021.
Previously titled The Asset, the movie follows Anna (Maggie Q), the world's most skilled contract killer who was rescued as a child by the legendary assassin Moody (Jackson). She becomes entangled with an enigmatic killer (Michael Keaton) after he is harmed.
The "Avengers" actor will also be seen in the "Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard", the sequel to the 2017 movie "The Hitman’s Bodyguard".
It also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds, Salma Hayek, Antonio Banderas, Kristofer Kamiyasu, Gabriella Wrigh, Frank Grillo, Tom Hopper, and Morgan Freeman.
The movie was originally set to hit theatres in 2020 but was pushed to 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
It is written by Tom O’Connor and directed by Patrick Hughes, who helmed the original movie.
“Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” is set to hit the theaters on June 16.

The studio added that "White Bird: A Wonder Story" is slated to hit the theaters on Sept. 16, 2022.
"White Bird: A Wonder" is based on the book by R.J. Palacio. It is directed by Marc Forster and stars Bryce Gheisar, Ariella Glaser, Gillian Anderson, Helen Mirren, and others.
