Mexican-American actress Salma Hayek opened up about her near-fatal experience with the coronavirus.
In an interview with Variety, Hayek revealed that she'd tested positive for the virus early in the pandemic and nearly passed away.
The 54-year-old actress noted that she decided to keep her diagnosis a secret until now.
Hayek revealed that her symptoms were so severe that she had to be put on oxygen and self-isolated in her home for seven weeks, adding that she went against the advice of her doctor and refused to go to a hospital.
The actress noted that she had preferred to die at her home.
Hayek stated that she still doesn't feel like herself, noting that she was still feeling fatigued during filming her first project post-coronavirus, "House of Gucci".
In April, she began filming the production, in which she plays a clairvoyant who was convicted of helping Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) orchestrate the murder of her ex-husband Italian businessman Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver). Maurizio was shot and killed in 1995 by a hitman Patrizia hired on the steps outside his office in Milan.
However, the actress explained that it was not a lot of time, noting: "It was easy. It was the perfect job to just get back into it. I had started doing Zooms at one point, but I could only do so many because I would get so tired."
In addition to "House of Gucci", Hayek will also be seen in Marvel's "Eternals" and "The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard", the sequel to the 2017 action-comedy "The Hitman’s Bodyguard", which stars Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds.
