Sadat Quresh Mosque in Sharqia Governorate: A Rich History and Religious Significance

Sadat Quresh Mosque in Bilbays, Sharqia Governorate, is one of the most important historical and religious landmarks in Egypt. It is the oldest mosque in Egypt and Africa, built in 18 AH, one year before the construction of Amr ibn al-Aas Mosque in Fustat.

The mosque is located in the center of Bilbays and is characterized by its unique design. It consists of three rows of marble columns and is divided into four arcades parallel to the qibla wall. The mosque was renovated in the era of Prince Mustafa al-Kashaf in 102 AH, when the minaret was added.

According to historians, Sadat Quresh Mosque was built on the site of the martyrdom of a number of companions and followers in the Battle of Bilbays, which took place between Muslims and Romans in 18 AH. These martyrs were buried in the mosque, including 40 companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
