Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri plans to resign, Lebanese media reported on Tuesday.

Sources told the Lebanese news website ElNashra that Prime Minister Saad Hariri intends to resign this afternoon.

Lebanon witnessed continuous protests for the thirteenth day in protest against the deterioration of living conditions and the poor economic situation of the country.

Hariri said on last week he had agreed with the cabinet to approve a package of economic reforms over mass protests in the streets of the capital and other cities in Lebanon.

Protesters denounced the current government and the civil economic situation in protests that still in the streets.

Hariri, who heads a coalition government awash in sectarian and political rivalries, gave his cabinet partners 72 hours on Friday 18 October to agree on reforms, suggesting he might resign if they did not agree.

Beirut and several areas have witnessed since October 17 a popular movement, in the form of demonstrations unprecedented for years, to reject the government’s approach to the adoption of new taxes on citizens, at a time when these citizens can no longer afford the cost of living, unemployment and poor public services.

The Lebanese are awaiting the expiration of the 72-hour deadline given by Prime Minister Saad Hariri to political forces to agree on a way out of the economic crisis.

Lebanese protesters arrived in the morning at Riad Al Solh Square in Beirut amid security measures described as “normal,” Lebanese media reported on Sunday.
