On Wednesday, South Korea's Army announced that joint high-tech military exercises between South Korea and the United Arab Emirates are currently underway.

The drills, taking place at the Korea Combat Training Center (KCTC), employ state-of-the-art technologies for realistic ground training.

Located in Inje, approximately 165 kilometers east of Seoul, the exercises are scheduled from August 7 to 18.

The combined drills involve about 2,500 troops, including a platoon from the UAE's armed forces and a unit from the 22nd Infantry Division, along with more than 200 pieces of military equipment, including tanks, helicopters, and unmanned aircraft.

This marks the UAE's inaugural participation in exercises at the KCTC facility. The comprehensive training is divided into two three-day phases, focusing on separate defense and attack operations against a specialized counterforce unit.

The primary objective is to evaluate and validate the combat capabilities of the participating forces, as stated by the Army.

During the drills, Major General Saeed Rashid Al Shehhi, commander of the UAE Land Forces, visited the training facility to inspire the troops. He was joined by General Park Jeong-hwan, the Army's Chief of Staff.

The exercises are set to conclude on Friday, closely aligned with the forthcoming Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise, a joint event involving South Korea and its allies, scheduled to commence next Monday.

These military exercises underscore the ongoing efforts between South Korea and the UAE to enhance their bilateral relations. The two nations had previously signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic defense industry cooperation in January, during President Yoon Suk Yeol's visit to Abu Dhabi for a summit.

The joint drills exemplify the commitment to strengthening diplomatic and defense ties between the two countries.
