The delegation of the Korea-Africa Forum of the National Assembly of South Korea paid a courtesy call to Hanafi Gebaly, Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday.
The forum was headed by Chairman Sul Hoon, Lee Won-wook, former Chairman of the Science and ICT Committee, Lee Hun-seung, Chairman of the National Defense Committee, and more.
The Korean delegation had a meeting with Osama Kamel Montaser, Chairman of the Defense and National Security Committee of the Senate, and Hazim Omar, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate.
The Korea-Africa forum, which has about 70 parliamentary members, aims to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation with African countries.
The forum selected Cairo as one of its first destinations of visit in 2023, as Egypt has been a leading country across the region.
During the meeting with Gebaly, Sul affirmed that the Korean National Assembly is exerting efforts to support bilateral cooperation of the governments and private sectors, adding that they are keen to strengthen the cooperation with the Arab Republic.
Sul invited Gebaly to visit South Korea in order to further develop bilateral relations.
On his part, Gebaly highlighted that he aims to boost the relationship between Korea and Egypt by conducting multiple cooperative projects and exchanging visits between senior officials.
He also outlined plans to expand cooperation in the areas of national mega projects for the 'New Republic' such as the desalination of seawater, clean energy, construction of the new administrative capital, and others.
The delegation had a meeting with the Senate, in which both sides agreed that Korea and Egypt have experienced utmost cooperation after they had decided to join forces in manufacturing of K9 self-propelled howitzer and Cairo Metro rolling stocks in Egypt, El-Dabaa Nuclear Power plant project and the joint airshow of Korean and Egyptian air forces over the Giza Pyramid last year.
