South Korea said on Monday that it plans to exempt Chinese tourists from tourist visa fees until the end of the year and increase the number of trips in line with efforts to attract more Chinese visitors.
The latest step, according to Yonhap Agency, comes 3 weeks after the Chinese tourism authorities announced their decision to lift the ban on tourism to South Korea, after 6 years of stopping due to the tense relations between the two countries following the deployment of a US defence system in North Korea.
Seoul plans to attract 1.5 million Chinese tourists in the second half of the year, aiming for the number to reach 2 million for the whole of 2023.
