The South Korean government announced on Sunday a $3 million donation over the next three years to fund climate action initiatives in Central Asia.
This significant contribution is part of South Korea's ongoing commitment to address climate change globally, specifically focusing on regions most vulnerable to environmental shifts.
According to South Korea’s Ministry of Finance, the donation agreement for the Climate and Sustainability Project Preparation Fund was signed on Friday during a ministerial meeting in Kazakhstan under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program, facilitated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The CAREC program, which includes 11 countries and development partners, aims to strengthen regional development and collaboration across Central Asia.
As a founding member of the ADB’s new climate fund, South Korea is contributing the largest share among its founding members.
This support will focus on expanding partnerships between South Korea and Central Asian countries, to launch impactful climate-focused projects in the region.
