South Korean authorities have initiated an investigation into the social media platform Telegram, according to Yonhap News Agency.
The probe is focused on allegations that Telegram has facilitated criminal activities, particularly the distribution of fake sexual videos and other illicit content.
The investigation is considering potential charges of complicity and aiding those involved in creating deepfake content.
South Korean police are also exploring the possibility of collaborating with France and international organizations in this inquiry.
Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, was arrested on August 24 at Le Bourget Airport in France.
He faces six charges, including complicity in managing a platform that allows the dissemination of prohibited information within a criminal organization.
Durov has been released on bail of 5 million euros and is barred from leaving France. He is required to report his location to the authorities twice a week.
