South Korea's "Doosan Enerbility" announced Thursday that it has signed a 1.6 trillion won (US$1.61 billion) contract with Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power to equip a nuclear power plant in the Egyptian city of El-Dabaa with additional facilities.

The South Korean "Yonhap" agency said that Doosan had won the project to supply key equipment such as nuclear reactors and steam generators, as the company will build additional facilities related to turbines and generators in El-Dabaa, which is located 300 km northwest of the capital, Cairo.

The agency added that Doosan is expected to build 82 facilities such as cooling facilities in the nuclear power plant by 2029 and to establish a cooperative relationship with Egyptian companies in the fields of construction and equipment to meet the demand of the Egyptian government.

It is noteworthy that the company has so far supplied 34 reactors and 124 steam generators, exported 11 reactors and 44 steam generators and participated in the construction of 10 local nuclear power plants.

Earlier, Alexander Korchagen, the Senior Vice President of Atom StoryExport, said, "The project entered the construction phase in July, and the Dabaa nuclear power plant is an attractive project for international companies."

This came on the sidelines of a ceremony held in a Cairo hotel, to announce the agreement of Rosatom's Atom StoryExport company, which is concerned with engineering work, and Korea Hydro and Nuclear Energy Company, to take over the construction of turbines for the El Dabaa project.
