The virtual Signing Ceremony of the MOU for cooperation in urban development between the National Agency for Administrative City Construction of South Korea (NAACC) and the Administrative Capital for Urban Development Egypt (ACUD) was held in 28 Dec. 2022 and Korean Ambassador Hong Jin-wook and Egyptian Ambassador to the ROK Khaled Abdelrahman participated in this event.
The objective of this MOU is to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the construction of the Administrative City in South Korea and the New Administrative Capital in Egypt. And this includes the areas of cooperation such as urban planning, smart cities, city operation and management.
Ambassador Hong congratulated the signing of the MOU through his Congratulatory remarks and mentioned that this MOU will be a stepping stone for strengthening future bilateral urban development cooperation.
He added that considering the strong bilateral relationship between two countries and expansion of bilateral cooperation fields, this MOU will contribute not only for Egypt to successfully finishing the construction of New Administrative Capital, but also to reinforcing two countries’ mutually beneficial cooperation.
Hong also stressed that the embassy will work closely with all related partners to bring about fruitful outcomes from this MOU.
On his part, the administrator of NAACC, Lee Sang-rae expressed his pleasure for holding the signing ceremony of the MOU.
He mentioned that this MOU will greatly support Egypt in constructing New Administrative Capital because the Administrative City of the ROK, Sejong, is very similar to the New Administrative Capital in Egypt.
Moreover, he hoped that, beginning with this MOU, two countries would establish strong cooperation system and make successful projects in the future.
Khaled Mahmoud Abbas, the Chairman of Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) said he is very happy that the continuous constructive discussion between NAACC and ACUD has come to fruition through the signing of the MOU and added that this MOU will assist Egypt in constructing New Administrative Capital, which the Egyptian government is focusing on.
He explained that as South Korea has abundant experience and knowledge from the construction of Sejong, which was built as a Korean administrative city, he hopes to find and elaborate bilateral cooperation projects in the field of urban development.
The NAACC and the ACUD will carry out various cooperation activities to implement this MOU such as exchange of experience and knowledges, dispatch of experts and capacity building program.
Under the circumstance that bilateral relationship is being expanded and deepened through a comprehensive cooperative partnership, which was established when President El-Sisi visited Korea in 2016, and the phone call between two presidents, President Yoon Suk-yeol and President Abdelfattah El-Sisi on October 2022.
This urban development cooperation MOU is regarded as a good example that shows bilateral cooperation is extending up to urban development sector including the construction of New Administrative Capital.
