The South Korean government announced a seven-day national mourning period for the victims of a tragic plane crash at Muan International Airport, which will last until January 4th.
The death toll from the crash has risen to 179, with only two survivors out of the 181 people onboard.
The incident occurred at 9:07 AM local time when a Jeju Air flight veered off the runway during its landing and collided with a fence at Muan International Airport, located nearly 288 kilometers southwest of Seoul, as reported by the Korean News Agency, Yonhap.
Authorities revealed that the plane's structure was nearly completely destroyed, making it difficult to identify the deceased. Rescue teams are working to recover the bodies, though the process is expected to take some time.
