On Monday, South Korea announced 3 new cases of monkeypox infection without records of traveling abroad before the onset of symptoms, raising fears of the spread of locally transmitted infections.

According to "Yonhap" news agency, the Korean Agency for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed 3 new cases of monkeypox had appeared, bringing the total number of cases to 13, pointing out that the three had not traveled abroad recently.

In the same vein, the 11th case was confirmed in the capital, Seoul, and the 12th and 13th cases in South Gyeongsang Province, southeast of Seoul.

The infection has spread rapidly around the world, since May 2022, while the time to recover from it takes from 2 to 4 weeks, and monkeypox was traditionally limited to regions located in central and western Africa, and it could cause symptoms that include fever, chills, rashes, and others.

The Korean authorities stated that the first case of the disease was in June 2022, and the first five cases were related to traveling abroad, but the remaining cases, which began on April 8, do not have records of traveling abroad, as they are assumed to be locally transmitted infections.
