Acting South Korean President Choi Sang-mok announced a special financial grant of 2.6 billion won to support areas devastated by ongoing wildfires across the country.

During a disaster response meeting, Choi confirmed that the government had approved the emergency disaster and safety grant, equivalent to about $177.4 million, for three wildfire-affected regions, including Sancheong. The funding aims to accelerate recovery efforts in these communities.

In addition to the special grant, the government will provide 50 million won in disaster relief funds to assist displaced residents and victims in the southeastern province of Sancheong.

The presidential office reported that Chief of Staff Chung Jin-suk held a high-level meeting to discuss urgent measures for controlling the crisis.

According to the latest government data, the wildfires have claimed four lives, injured six people, and forced approximately 1,500 residents to evacuate.
