Scientists across the world race against the time to find answers for questions about whether the drug makers should modify the anti-Corona vaccines to fight the fast-spreading Omicron mutant.
However, Russia’s Minister of Health, Michael Murashko, has announced that using the Russian-made vaccines Sputnik and Sputnik Light helps protect various mutants of the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19) including Omicron.
The Russian minister addressed a meeting of the Presidency of the Council of Coordination for Fighting COVID-19.
He said that vaccination with the Sputnik and repeating of vaccination may prevent and protect the population in Russia of the Coronavirus including Omicron.
Murashko indicated that his ministry has studied features of the Omicron mutant that is sweeping through Africa.
He added that experts of the ministry shared the information with the staff of the Russian Federal Authority for Protecting Rights of Consumer at fieldwork in the South African Republic where the Omicron was detected for the first time one month ago.

It is worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed on the telephone on December 9 with his South African counterpart the dual cooperation in fighting the Omicron mutant.
The two presidents agreed to dispatch several Russian epidemiologists and researchers, along with a laboratory and other medical devices, to South Africa within the near future.
Furthermore, the Head of Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, under the Russian Ministry of Health, affirmed that the Sputnik, a Russian –made anti-Corona vaccine can protect against the various mutants of the Coronavirus.
