Participants of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit focused on issues of economic growth and cooperation with the countries of the Global South. This was stated by Russia's Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Maksim Oreshkin following the first day of the meeting of G20 leaders, according to TV BRICS.
“The trend remains that the countries of the Global South are increasingly dominating the structure of global economic growth,” he emphasised. According to Oreshkin, these countries are developing through their own projects in technology, education and infrastructure development.
Answering a question from a TV BRICS reporter, the Russian representative noted the role of regional associations in the work of the Group of Twenty.
“Involving all these associations means greater representation of the global majority at the G20 platform. This means that the opinion of the global majority will sound louder, will sound stronger and, of course, will be taken into account to a greater extent,” he added.
Oreshkin also reaffirmed the importance of the G20 format for Russia. In his view, it is the place where issues of the economy, social sphere and environment are discussed. He underlined the successful achievement of agreements on the declaration, including matters of food security and sustainable development.
As for trade and economic cooperation with Africa, the Russian representative reported plans to increase mutual trade by 1.5–2 times by 2030. “This is not only traditional goods but also, for example, the use of Russian technologies. Russian companies and technological platforms are widely represented across the world and are actively entering African markets,” Oreshkin noted.
According to him, Africa, with a population of 1.5 billion people, is the fastest-growing continent, and therefore issues of development and its financing are felt particularly acutely.
Earlier, the leaders of the Global South countries adopted the G20 summit’s final declaration, outlining the main directions of international cooperation.
