The center said that the crew of the Russian fighters identified the air targets, the tactical fighters Mirage 2000 and Rafale, as well as a C-135 tanker aircraft of the French Air Force, and escorted them over the Black Sea.
A video clip released by the Russian Defense Ministry on Wednesday showed that the Su-27 fighters approached the French planes only tens of feet away. The video shows pilots in their cockpit and the national flag of France on combat aircraft.
The French combat aircraft were armed with AIM-9 guided air-to-air missiles and equipped with external fuel tanks to increase the flight range, according to the Ministry of Defense.
