Ukraine witnessed a sharp military escalation as Russian forces launched renewed attacks targeting electricity infrastructure in Kyiv and several other regions, intensifying pressure on the country’s energy network.
The strikes coincided with high-level diplomatic activity in the Ukrainian capital, where Norway’s foreign minister arrived for official meetings with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, reflecting continued international political and diplomatic engagement with Kyiv.
According to regional authorities, Russian attacks struck power stations in and around the capital, as well as in northern and southern regions. In the southern Odesa region, local administration officials reported that electricity facilities were hit, leading to power outages affecting more than 33,000 residents.
In Kyiv, debris from a Russian Shahed-136 drone fell on a non-residential building in the Solomianskyi district, sparking a fire. Emergency services were able to contain the blaze, and no casualties were immediately reported.
The latest attacks underscore ongoing challenges facing Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as winter conditions persist and hostilities continue.
